Interview with a Team Owner: Imad Mubeen

Blog-a-baba sits down with Imad Mubeen, owner of Jimmy Buckets Jimmy, and veteran Sheikh Gucci Fantasy League player. We talk League Rules, who is his GOAT, and if this could be his farewell tour from the league. Check out the interview below!

1.       The league recently switched to an auction style draft. What are your thoughts on this change? Do you prefer this or the classic snake style? Is there perhaps another more preferred draft style?

a.       I wouldn’t say I liked the move to auction draft because I prefer snake since it moves much faster than auction. Though with that being said, the auction keeps everything fair since everyone can bid for any player.

2.       What goes into your draft decision making?

a.       I always try to draft by the position of need. This ensures that I am filling all positions. Though, I should always draft by getting the best player available. Drafting the best available throughout the whole draft will allow any team to make trades easier that may hold a higher value than others.

3.       What are your thoughts on the trade culture within the league – that is to say; what is it like initiating trade talks or being part of them?

a.       Trades should be allowed to every team regardless of record. Allowing bad teams to make trades will keep them playing throughout the season and not just give up in the middle of the season. This will enable the league to stay competitive throughout the season. Your record should not dictate whether you make a trade or not. As long as the work is not being completed to collude, it should be allowed by all teams.

4.       If you were made league GM for a day and could make any change in the league that would remain for the season, what changes would those be – if any?

a.       I don’t believe any change would be allowed if I tried to make them. My ideas would be shot down instantly because I think that not everyone’s voices are heard equally. Any changes should be a collective league vote. For these reasons, I have not thought about what I would implement.

5.       What are your thoughts on the current League Manager, Qais Yar, and the work he’s done in this league?

a.       He tries his best to keep the league fair. He does his best to keep everyone civil and not allow arguments to break out.

6.       What are your thoughts on the current trade committee?

a.       I am okay with the trade committee. This committee is meant to keep teams from colluding and not making unfair trades.

7.       Do you have a favorite moment from this league? Any fond memories?

a.       Honestly speaking, I’m unsure if I have any favorites or fond memories of this league, though it’s been a pleasure to play with the people I am playing with in this league.

8.       If you could undo a single move you made this season; player you drafted, or didn’t draft (but had the chance to) or a waiver pickup you could have made but didn’t, or a player you wish you didn’t drop – etc…what would it be and why?

a.       I’m unsure if I would undo any move, though I wish I were more active with picks and drops. The last two weeks have shown that I would have a capable team to compete with if I was more involved in the picks and drop.

9.       Your team currently sits in least place in both Blog-a-Baba’s Power Rankings and the ESPN standings, as we’ve officially hit the midpoint of the season what are your thoughts on your position in the ranks?

a.       If I had been more involved from the beginning, I don’t think I would be in last place. Right now, I’m fighting for a playoff spot still in play. You see what has happened the previous two weeks I was active. I’m currently on a 2-game win streak.

10.   Is there a team you “get up” for to beat?

a.       Like everyone else in the league, I’m always looking to beat SAMJ

11.   Thinking about the other Team Owners in the league, are there are any that particularly stand out to you? This can be from an admiration standpoint, a general friendship standpoint, or a rivalry standpoint?

a.       The Ghney brothers are always a top, so credit them for excellently constructing the rosters they do year in and year out. They are always one of the top teams in the league.

12.   There were rumors that you wouldn’t participate in this season’s league, and we’re very glad you did, but was there any truth to those rumors? What are your motivations for either staying in the league or leaving the league.

a.       I was convinced to stay, so I did, as this is going to be my last year

13.   What do you think of SAMJ’s baseball league, and why is the best league in fantasy history?

a.       SAMJ baseball league is fine. I enjoy playing in his league, but I would change some things.

14.   GOAT – who’s yours and why?

a.       Michael Jordon, because he has six championships and has never lost a finals series. The impact he had on his team and others around him is what makes the difference. He never left to join forces as LeBron did and that alone makes him the GOAT. He was given players to play with, but any superstar needs a team around them to win.

15.   Do you have any message you’d like to share with your fellow Team Owners and readers of this blog?

a.       It is always fun playing with you guys. This league consists of a great group of guys.
